lies and whispers

Is a work based on the the 1965 song "What the World Needs Now Is Love" a popular song with lyrics by Hal David and music composed by Burt Bacharach. I see it as a social commentary on how we dream of peace but create a world of violence and greed instead.

The intention and how the song was used is important especially in our current day and age when we are all living in a world that is more war torn and full of strife and division then ever before. In a world that has the captaincy, knowledge, technology and resources to provide a better way of living then ever before to provide each person on the planet a way of living with each other and the planet in health and harmony. I am concerned about the current contrast between how sophisticated we are on one hand yet how barbaric we are on the other hand. Look around you at the world, we take war, division, violence in our actual lives and in our games, fictions and play. Shouldn't we ever question this? Shouldn't we ever wonder? Shouldn't we ever stop and ask ourselves what is going on why are creating more and more strife on a planet that cannot support that way of life; why are not only creating it in our physical reality but why then do we replicate it in our fantasy play (look at the majority of online games, home games, televised and cinematic entertainment)?

The original work was composed of nine separate small (3x5) digital LCD screens fixed together in a metal frame. The images were done by painting the lips of the "whisperers" blue, so that I could mask out the skin color from the lip color and then modify the two into infinite variations. The original construction was a rather cumbersome and this iteration presents all nine variations on one screen.
